Great news! The Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with the City has been
approved! After a year and a half of
negotiating, we have an agreement with the City
in which Fullerton Recreational Riders (FRR)
will formally oversee the use of the City’s
arena.
The City has established a
rental fee for the use of the arena which will
be reviewed each year for groups wishing to use
the arena. These fees will be used to help
maintain the arena for everyone’s use. If you
know of anyone that would like to schedule the
use of the arena, they should contact FRR
directly. The cost this year to use the arena is
set at $5 per horse (grounds fee). The arena is
open to public use at no cost for individuals
and groups of less than 25 people and/or fewer
than 5 horses. The City will be helping with the
replacement cost of a tractor to do arena and
trail maintenance. We hope this can be done this
summer when we sell our existing tractor. If you
know of someone wanting our old tractor, please
contact me. It looks like we may have several
people interested. I also want to thank those of
you that were able to attend the Council meeting
in place of our regular membership meeting. I
think your attendance helped.
The May campout got cancelled
because of fires and heat in the area of Chino
Hills State Park. The June campout has been
cancelled also in part because of the cost of
fuel. Our Trail Coordinator, Bud Welch, is
working on the July campout at Wild Horse. Many
of us have already made reservations, some for
the whole week. Sharon and I are looking
forward to the campout at Wild Horse campground
near Big Bear. I hope to see some of you up
there.
We have been able to install
a quick coupler near the main arena gate so that
the area can be watered to keep the dust down
for the shows. The arena has been rented for a
series of Eastern/Western Pleasure shows
starting in June. Don’t forget the monthly
gymkhana we have scheduled.
The Board has decided to
cancel this year’s Hunt Brunch after our Social
Chairman, Charlene Rodriguez, reported she only
had 11 people signed up for it. I want to thank
Charlene for all her work in trying to set it
up. If you have any ideas to increase interest
in next year’s event, please let us know.
As you read this article,
Sharon and I are in Colorado. Wish me well as I
am looking for a horse that I can keep at our
place there. I have been borrowing one, but it
is time for me to have my own out there. It is
easier than hauling a horse out there from here.
We also have a lot of work to do on the ranch
now that my health is better. I hope your summer
is going well. We will be back just after the
General Membership meeting at the arena this
month. Our V.P., Brian Jacobs, has scheduled a
trailer clinic for the program. The meeting will
be at the arena.
FRR’s Executive Committee has
been meeting to plan for the future of FRR and
the horse community in the Fullerton area. We
are working on a new club brochure and looking
at ways we can become further involved with the
community. We are also looking into ways we can
help keep Fullerton horse friendly. If you have
any ideas, we would like to hear from you. Our
City Liaison, Robert Hayden, continues to be a
real asset by working very closely with the City
on issues that might affect us.
As of this writing I have
been advised that two of our members had been in
the hospital. Curta was in a horse accident at
the arena and Coren had hip replacement surgery.
The Club has sent flowers and hopes they will
both be back in the saddle soon.
Until I see you on the trail,
ride safe.
